It’s no wonder…

So I bought a new microwave about two weeks ago to replace the one that came with this place.  (The old one was original equipment from 1985.)  After installation, the turntable did not turn smoothly so I called GE and they sent a repair guy out today.  He installed a new motor which did nothing to help the issue.  He tells me it is because the motor of the unit is not strong enough to turn the turntable.  WTF?  Why would a company manufacture a motor that cannot run its appliance?  It is no wonder why consumer confidence in American-made products has been declining.  Shame really.

And while I am at it, what was with this stupid Earth Hour thing?  Ooooohhh the lights of Atlanta get turned off for an hour in all of the downtown buildings.  SO WHAT?  2/3 of those buildings are offices which were EMPTY and should have their lights off anyway!  I am really over this “green” movement.  It is just another excuse to charge more for the same product because it is recycled cardboard packaging rather than shrink wrap.  If our society really wants to reduce carbon emissions (or whatever is killing the planet this week), then give me options that are affordable.  The same holds true for organic foods.  We have a whole generation of kids growing up on $5/lb. organic grapes.  Why?  I’ve eaten “normal” grapes for years and other than a balding head and bit of a gut, I am doing just fine, thank you.  What crap.

And one more thing — I really hate smokers now since I quit.  I told myself that I was not going to be one of “those people” when I quit — you know the ones who hate everything about smoking.  But alas, I have become one.  I have really been getting urges this week and thankfully, I keep reminding myself that I do not need to put up with the wind, cold, rain, smells, or cost of smoking anymore and for that, I am very glad.  Sperm’s mother still smokes and he has expressed his anger about it.  I am becoming more and more convinced that in some way, her smoking could be viewed as child abuse.  But for now, I will not go there.  By the way, I need to get something big for my one year non-smoking milestone.  It comes up in mid-August — what should I do/buy?

New microwave? WOW, the cheddar must really be rolling in. Now, if you are still “nuking” your food then you cannot complain about the organic things and going green. I say this because when microwaves were just a nuke in someone’s eye, we just warmed our food in the oven. What happened to that? Yes, the lights should be out in Atlanta when no one is working and probably also when we are at work not doing any work too (smile). I’m so happy about the non-smoking milestone coming up soon. You probably would have kept more of your hair if you never would have started smoking! Just kidding! Smoking is a form of child abuse – I think you are bringing out your feminine side with that comment. Can we say DRAMA? It always nice reading your blog. You kinda left youself wide opened with that that comment about “getting something big” for you non-smoking milestone. I want go there this time. Wishing you love, peace & SMOKELESS LOVE!

New nuke box huh. Nice. Although, gotta throw a little wrench in your statement about declining American product confidence. Last I checked, almost no appliances are made in America anymore. If I had to guess your turntable motor probably had the name Matsushita Electric, Samsung, or similar mass produced Asian product written upon it. The reality and answer to your question of why they do it is this, Its cheaper for them to contract it out to other brands than it is to build it themselves. And they do it because we no longer shop on quality as our primary concern. In consumer market today price is king. So you build them cheap or you make no sales. Same thing happens in the car industry. My Grand Cherokee had Bosch electrics, a Mitsubishi starter, GM power steering, Akebono brakes, and Spicer axles. Not much left made by Chrysler corp because it was cheaper for them to buy it all than build.

I agree that the whole organic movement is a crock. Bring on the Pesticides, Nitrates, and lets keep the price down. There’s no way the supposed better taste is worth what they’re asking in price.

Congrats on the approaching one year of non-smoking status. Not sure what you should do to celebrate. Anything you buy will eventually be replaced by something better so maybe you should just make it memorable by doing something fun. Maybe take a cruise or some other similar trip.
