1-2 punch

Boy, we’ve got a classic one-two punch thing going on right now don’t we?  The bailout fails and the stock market drops 777 points in one day.  And closer to home, the gas shortage continues.  A couple of thoughts on both: first the bailout.

Personally, I am glad it failed and I hope it continues to fail until the federal government realizes what their laws did to create this mess.  Yes, blame deserves to spread around to people who wanted the $400,000 home on the $40,000 salary and the banks who gave them the money.  But we should not be rewarding this behavior.  If a bank has failed, it failed due to poor business dealings.  The last thing we need is another $1T of debt on top of the $9T we already have.  I tried to email my reps to stay firm and vote against any bailout plan that rewards risky behavior but could not get through.  Seems other Americans care about their money for once.  Or maybe there was no “America’s Got Talent” act for them to vote on last night.

And now this silly gas crisis.  Is it me or is Purdue really stupid?  First, he claims there are ample supplies, then he wants us to stay at home with our families, then he wants Bush to release oil from the stragetic reserve and he leaves the country to drum up more business.  A couple of things here.  This exposes Purdue’s way of government – do not care unless I have to.  As far as he is concerned, Atlanta could die a painful death.  Second, by requesting oil be released from the reserve shows his absolute stupidity.  My car does not burn oil, it burns gas.  Gas that is refined on the coast and shipped here.  Let’s say Bush agrees to this stupid idea – by the time the oil that is released makes it to ATL as gas, it may be November.  Yeah, good idea Sonny Dumbass.  And if I was a company in Spain seeing this in the news, I’d be going “Cabeza de nuevo a Moultrie usted campesino sureño. ¡Usted no puede conseguir su mierda junta!”  (translation:  “Head back to Moultrie you redneck.  You can’t get your shit together!”)  I am thankful I do have to refill my tank quite yet.  According to Roxy, I should be ok for about 300 miles – more than enough to get into this weekend or maybe even Monday next.

A quick note to my dear readers:  the blog is taking a break for a couple of days.  I hope to have a Friday Free-For-All up at the end of the week.  See you then!
